Educational Programs

The WildARC of East Carolina is pleased to announce several educational programs available to the public.  These programs are the direct result of a grant the WildARC received from the Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation.  We are very grateful to the Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation and laud their dedication in supporting groups interested in education and the environment.

Silent Hunters of the Night...learn about the owls in our area; how they have adapted and why then can see and fly in the dark of night.  Includes their natural history, feeding and breeding behaviors and their vocalizations.

Birding in Your Backyard. Do you have a bird feeder in your yard but can't identify what comes to it?  Do you know what to put out to entice different birds to your yard?  This program will help you identify some of our eastern feathered friends and help you put out the right stuff to keep 'em coming.

There's No Such Thing As A "Seagull" Here on the coast we see them everywhere and we all call them seagulls.  These common birds of the coast have individual names such as Laughing Gull or Bonaparte's Gull.  And some of them aren't even gulls! Learn what gulls and terns are all about and how to identify them when you are at the beach.

What is Wildlife Rehabilitation? What do we do at WildARC?  Learn what goes on in this hospital for wild animals, what the volunteers need to know and how to handle some of bigger patients.  Enjoy scenes of some of our more unusual patients.  This program can be shown as a 30 minute slide show or a 30 minute videoIn addition our educational ambassador, Jamaica, a red-tailed hawk, will be presented to the group.

As a non-profit organization every activity we conduct is "out of pocket".  We do not charge a fee for our programs but would appreciate a donation for each program if possible.  If you are in the eastern North Carolina area and would like us to present a program to your group or class, please contact us via the e-mail or by phone at (252) 638-4646.  We'll be glad to set a date and time.  Please give us at least two weeks notice.

Tour the Center!

During the months of April through September the Center is open for tours.  Tours are available to children age 6 and above and adults.  See how the Center works and some of the wondrous orphans that get a new chance at life here.  We request that persons touring The Center give a donation to help us.  Tours must be arranged by appointment only.
